Window is a sculptural installation I created for a Burmese restaurant in Singapore—Burma Social—that seeks to transport viewers to where our food comes from. Through the manipulation of materiality, this installation showcases a rice paddy field in the monsoon.
The cultivation of rice and ripples of water in a paddy field reflect the first image the mind conjures when thinking of Southeast Asia. The installation is at once symbolic and literal—the region is a melting pot of myriad peoples, cultures, and influences, often said to be tied together by a bowl of rice.
